SIVASAGAR, June 1: Jorhat MP and Leader of Opposition in Parliament, Gaurov Gogoi, received a warm and enthusiastic welcome from Congress supporters and party workers upon his arrival in Sivasagar today. He visited the historic Siva-doul to offer prayers alongside State Assembly Leader of Opposition Debabrat Saikia, former Naharkatia MLA Pranoti Phukan, district Congress chief Manjeer Gogoi, APCC member Ajay Gogoi, and other leaders.

At the Circuit House, Gaurov Gogoi met with a group of 17 senior citizens, seeking their suggestions and guidance for strengthening the party.

Addressing the media before joining a procession, Gogoi thanked the Chief Minister sarcastically for making him the focal point of discussions over the past three years and joked that the “film” the CM is making about him would be a “big flop.” He candidly admitted that the Congress party had underperformed in the recent panchayat elections and pledged to address the shortcomings. “Congress will be as strong as before,” he affirmed.

Gogoi also committed to dedicating more time to Assam and his constituency. He raised concerns about the discrimination faced by North Eastern students in New Delhi due to their Mongoloid features and said he had already apprised the Prime Minister about this issue, while cautioning him on China.

During a visit to the Swahid Peoli Phukan Park near Sivasagar Borpukhuri, Gogoi lamented the government’s negligence toward freedom fighters, stating, “Those who sacrificed their lives in India’s freedom movement deserve respect, but the current government’s neglect is evident in the park’s condition.”

Nazira MLA Debabrat Saikia expressed confidence in Gaurov Gogoi’s leadership to guide Congress to victory in the state. He criticized the NDA government for selling state land and resources to capitalist business tycoons at throwaway prices, compromising indigenous interests. Saikia alleged that the BJP government has failed to fulfill any of its promises to the people.
