Shiba Inu team has revealed a major development to protect its ecosystem from future threats.

Notably, in July, the Shiba Inu team announced one of its most strategic moves, a step aimed at future-proofing the ecosystem against one of the biggest threats facing crypto, quantum computing.

Quantum computers are coming, and Shiba Inu isn’t scrambling. It’s been building. Meet Shib Identity, a privacy-first system designed to outlast the storm.” The team wrote.

While most of the industry is still waking up to the threat posed by quantum computing, Shiba Inu has been quietly preparing in the background. While much of the crypto industry remains reactive to the growing threat posed by quantum computing, Shiba Inu has taken a proactive stance, quietly developing tools to safeguard its users in a post-quantum world.

The newly launched Shib Identity system introduces a decentralized, privacy-centric identity layer that’s built with longevity in mind. At its core is Fully Homomorphic Encryption (FHE), a cutting-edge technology that allows computations on encrypted data without ever exposing it. This means user credentials remain encrypted and private even during authentication, giving Shiba Inu a significant edge once quantum computing begins to undermine current cryptographic standards.

The identity system is integrated with Shib Name Service, enabling users to replace complex wallet addresses with simple human-readable names, such as “yourname.shib.” The team is also pursuing ICANN approval, which would allow these names to function like standard web domains, connecting crypto-native identity to the broader internet.

TREAT governs access to the Shib Identity system, one of the Shiba Inu ecosystem’s core tokens. The move gives TREAT added real-world utility, strengthening its role within the broader ecosystem and enhancing its value proposition.

To further bolster security, Shiba Inu has partnered with Zama, a French cryptography firm specializing in post-quantum solutions. Zama’s Confidential Blockchain Protocol, which launched its public testnet on July 1, ensures end-to-end transaction privacy, reinforcing Shiba Inu’s commitment to digital sovereignty.

Lucie, Shiba Inu’s marketing lead, emphasized the long-term vision during a recent episode of “Shy Speaks Shib,” where Zama CEO Rand Hindi joined her. “Confidential identity. Privacy. Encryption. Sovereignty. This is what we’re building quietly, with purpose,” she said, outlining the project’s commitment to privacy-first infrastructure.

Meanwhile, SHIB community voice RuggaRat highlighted on July 9 that while major tech firms like Apple and Microsoft are just beginning to adopt quantum-resistant encryption, Shibarium is already testing it, utilizing Zama’s tools to implement confidential DeFi and privacy-preserving identities on its testnet.

The urgency behind Shiba Inu’s move is not unfounded. In May, Google researchers warned that quantum computers could potentially crack traditional encryption, like RSA and those used in Bitcoin, using far fewer resources than previously thought.

At press time, SHIB is trading at $0.00001217, down 6.05% in the past 24 hours.
